Coordination of the ‘Action for Responsible Timber Sourcing’ coalition

Since January 2025, Transitions has coordinated the Action for Responsible Timber Sourcing (ARTS) coalition, bringing together founding members from a diverse range of sectors, including luxury goods and healthcare. The coalition aims to accelerate the shift towards deforestation and conversion-free wood-based materials, while upholding human rights and safeguarding the rights of Indigenous peoples and local communities.

In 2026, the coalition’s work is structured around three key priorities: strategy and capacity-building, including market monitoring, stakeholder dialogue, the development of a charter and progress report, and regulatory monitoring; tools and methodologies for robust due diligence, covering traceability and supplier engagement, risk analysis, deforestation and conversion-free (DCF) methodologies, satellite monitoring tools, and grievance management; and sustainable production practices, through field projects and collaboration with certification schemes.
