Contribute to the development and implementation of a circular economy strategy

Between 2018 and 2023, Transitions supported BIC in reducing the negative impacts of its operations and its reliance on virgin materials by developing and implementing a circular economy strategy for its lighters.

An assessment of the main issues and challenges associated with lighters was first conducted, followed by the joint development with BIC of its sustainability strategy, including a circular economy roadmap. Transitions then provided operational support for the roll-out of circular economy projects, including raising awareness and training teams, establishing new collection channels with local partners across three continents to remanufacture used lighters, and providing consultation on the launch of a new range of eco-designed lighters.

This work has placed the circular economy at the heart of BIC’s lighter strategy and laid the practical foundations for a sustained reduction in the use of virgin materials.
